Nature - Spring equinox

Spring equinox

Today is the first day of Spring in the northern hemisphere. The Sun crosses an imaginary line in the sky above Earth’s equator – moving from the southern to the northern hemisphere. We are now half way between mid-winter and mid-summer.

In the southern hemisphere the opposite is true. Today marks the beginning of autumn in the southern hemisphere.

Today’s events result in nearly equal daylight and nighttime in both hemispheres. However we do experience slightly more daylight in the north due to atmospheric refraction, which bends the Sun's rays.

I love this time of year in the north as everything starts to turn from browns to light greens.
